Three friends, a Monkey, Owl and Tiger come across a mysterious ball that turns out to be a classmate they have never “seen” before. What does it mean not to be seen and to remain “invisible”?

Prepare to be delighted by Gateway Theatre’s premiere of The Invisible Pangolin, an interactive theatrical performance designed for children aged 5 to 8. This uplifting one-hour production offers more than just entertainment; it provides a transformative journey that fosters empathy, understanding, and resilience in young audiences. Plus, children will have the chance to learn about the unique characteristics of animals native to Singapore.

The play follows Penny the Sunda Pangolin as she navigates her anxiety in school and her fear of being seen by others. Through witnessing her trials and triumphs, the audience can expect to walk away with insights into the value of friendship, the importance of being inclusive, the art of saying “no” in an uncomfortable situation, and how to give space to a friend who says “no”. Being a naturally shy and solitary mammal (an endangered species found across nature reserves in Singapore), the Sunda Pangolin is an apt parallel to the introverts who walk among us.

The Playwright, Dr Jaisilan Sathiasilan, hopes this story can teach young audiences how to look out for friends, as he has had his share of anxiety and fear in primary school too.

Held at Gateway Theatre, Black Box, the Standard price at $30 from 22 June onwards (prices are exclusive of SISTIC’s booking fee). The show is accessible to wheelchair users and individuals with mobility restrictions.
